Has anyone tried the keto-specific pre-workouts like the ones from Perfect Keto? They usually have BHB salts mixed in.

They're okay, but the taste is... an acquired taste. Very salty/bitter. I'd rather spend my money on a high-quality steak for dinner, honestly.

So, if I go with black coffee, some salt, and maybe some Citrulline malate (bulk powder), am I basically set?

Pretty much. It’s the 'bare bones' approach but it’s the safest for your macros. If you want the flavour, just add a few drops of liquid Stevia.

And make sure the Citrulline is pure. Some cheap ones are cut with malic acid in a 1:1 ratio, which is fine, but some use weird bulking agents.

Just watch out for 'Natural Flavours' too. In the US/Canada, that can sometimes include small amounts of dextrose to keep the powder from clumping.

That's the 'hidden carb' trap! It’s only a gram or two, but it adds up if you're doing a strict 20g net carb limit.

I stick to the rule: if I can't pronounce it, I don't drink it before a lift. Keep it simple, Kevin.

Thanks everyone. I'm going to try the 'Salty Coffee' method tomorrow morning and see how the energy levels hold up. If I don't pass out during deadlifts, I'll call it a win.

You'll be fine! The salt actually helps with the 'keto flu' feelings too. Kill it!

Post back and let us know how it went. Always good to see what works for people.
