Best Pre Workout for Running and Spartan Race Training
Is there a big difference between a pre-workout for heavy lifting and one for running/endurance training? I feel like the ones for lifting often have more stimulants and things for pumps, which might not be ideal for a long run.
@StrengthAndRun, yes, there is a significant difference. Lifting pre-workouts often prioritize strength, pumps (nitric oxide boosters), and acute energy bursts. Endurance pre-workouts focus more on sustained energy, reduced fatigue, electrolytes, and ingredients that buffer lactic acid for prolonged effort. While some overlap exists, the ratios and specific ingredients can vary greatly.
Also, remember to cycle your pre-workouts or take breaks from them. Your body builds tolerance to stimulants pretty quickly, and you will find you need more and more for the same effect. A week or two off every month or so can reset your system.
@GearHead, that is solid advice. How do you usually cycle? Do you switch to a non-stim pre-workout during your break, or just go without anything?
