Recipe for sadness. Accurately described.

I actually prefer the Chocolate Silk flavor from MusclePharm Combat. It's a blend (whey isolate, concentrate, hydrolysate, casein, egg) and it's super creamy. I think Costco sells it in huge bags in both the US and Canada.

Combat is a classic. Good value too. Does it really last 7 hours though? It feels more like a post-workout blend to me.

It has egg and casein so it's better than pure whey, but probably only 3-4 hours of satiety. If you need 7 hours, you're looking at something with very high casein content or you need to eat a proper meal.

Or double scoop it? Is that overkill? I sometimes do two scoops of a blend before a long train journey.

Double scooping is fine if your stomach can handle it. That's about 50g of protein. Might be a bit much for some folks at once.

What about plant-based blends? I've heard pea and brown rice blends can be slow-digesting too. Any thoughts on those for long days?

I’ve used the Bulk Powders Vegan Blend. It’s definitely thick—very thick—but the taste is... an acquired taste. Very grainy.

Vegan blends are great for satiety because of the fiber content, but the amino acid profile isn't usually as good as dairy. Stick to milk proteins if you can tolerate them.

Actually, most modern vegan blends like Vega Sport or Ghost Vegan have added BCAAs to make up for that. But the texture still isn't quite there compared to a nice whey/casein blend.

I tried a hemp protein once. Never again. Tasted like I was licking the bottom of a lawnmower.

Lawnmower! 😂 Accurate. Hemp is high in fiber but low in actual protein percentage per scoop.

Okay, no hemp for me then! Has anyone used 'Syntha-6' for this? It's marketed as a multi-stage blend.

Syntha-6 is the best-tasting protein on the planet, period. BUT, it has a lot more carbs and fats than other brands. Great for satiety, but watch your macros if you're cutting.

Agreed. Syntha-6 feels like a meal replacement. If you have the calories to spare, it's perfect for a 6-hour gap.

Is it available in the UK? I think I've seen it on Amazon UK but it's like £60 for a tub.

Yeah it's pricey here. Honestly NorthernLass, just get the Micellar Casein from Bulk or MyProtein and mix it with their regular whey. Save yourself 20 quid.

DIY blending is actually the most cost-effective way. I do a 50/50 mix of whey isolate and micellar casein. Best of both worlds.

I never thought of mixing them myself. Do the flavors clash if they aren't the same brand?

If you stick to basic Chocolate or Vanilla you're usually fine. Mixing 'Birthday Cake' whey with 'Chocolate Peanut Butter' casein might be a disaster though.
