I am looking for a high quality unflavored whey protein that I can use in my morning smoothies and also for baking. I find that most flavored proteins are too sweet and they ruin the taste of my recipes. I want something that is pure and does not have any weird aftertaste.

I have used the Isopure unflavored before and it was okay but it did not mix very well in my oatmeal. I am in the US and I am looking for something that is budget friendly but still high in protein. I want to be able to control the flavor of my meals myself.

Do you have a favorite unflavored brand? I am also looking for tips on how to prevent the protein from clumping when I add it to hot foods like protein pancakes. I would love some advice from the bakers in the group!

For unflavored whey, I always recommend Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard Natural Unflavored. It mixes incredibly well and has absolutely no weird aftertaste. Perfect for smoothies or baking! πŸ’ͺ

@RockyBuilder, I have heard good things about ON Gold Standard. Is the natural version significantly different from their regular unflavored one, ingredient-wise? πŸ€”

I have been using Myprotein Impact Whey Isolate Unflavored for years now. It is super pure and dissolves seamlessly in anything. You barely know it is there, which is exactly what you want for cooking. πŸ’―

@PumpChaser, I have been thinking about trying Myprotein. Do you find it froths much in smoothies or does it stay quite smooth? I hate a foamy protein shake. πŸ˜…

@SmoothieQueen, Myprotein Impact Whey Isolate is great for smoothies. I find if you blend it with frozen fruit, it does not froth up at all. It just becomes part of the smoothie! πŸ“

@PumpChaser, thanks for the tip on the frozen fruit! I will definitely try that with Myprotein. It sounds like a great option. 🫢

Another vote for Ascent Native Fuel Unflavored Whey. It is a bit pricier, but the quality is top-notch. It is filtered at a lower temperature which supposedly keeps more of the natural protein structure intact. Great for sensitive stomachs. πŸš€

@AllOkJumpmaster, you are right about Ascent. The taste (or lack thereof) is amazing, and it digests so easily. Worth the extra quid if you can afford it. πŸ™Œ

I use NOW Foods Unflavored Whey Protein Isolate. It is very affordable and gets the job done without any fuss. No unnecessary additives, just pure whey. Highly recommend for bulk buying! πŸ’°

I second the NOW Foods recommendation. It is a solid, no-frills option that does not break the bank. Perfect for someone who just wants to add protein without any extra junk. πŸ‘

For baking, I find that a pure whey isolate works best to avoid altering the texture of baked goods too much. Concentrate can sometimes make things a bit chewy. Just my experience! πŸͺ

Does anyone have experience with BulkSupplements? Their unflavored whey isolate is really cheap, but I am always a bit wary of super low prices. Is the quality there? πŸ‘€

I use BulkSupplements regularly, @Droz. Their unflavored whey isolate is perfectly fine for me. I have never had any issues with taste or mixing, and the macros are spot on. It is a no-brainer if you are on a budget. πŸš€

I have been using Naked Whey for a while. It is exactly what it sounds like: just whey protein, nothing else. It is a bit more expensive but worth it for the purity if you are concerned about additives. 🧘

@philosopher, Naked Whey is fantastic. I appreciate their commitment to minimal ingredients. It has become my go-to for protein pancakes and muffins. πŸ₯ž

Just a general tip: always check for third-party testing results if you are concerned about purity and heavy metals, especially with unflavored options. Transparency is key! πŸ”¬

Anyone tried grass-fed unflavored whey? I have heard it has a slightly different, richer taste that might work well in certain recipes, but I am hesitant to commit to a big tub. πŸ„

Dymatize ISO100 Hydrolyzed Protein Powder, Gourmet Vanilla, 5 Pound (Packaging May Vary) - this is my favorite! It is a bit pricey, but the quality is amazing. I use it for everything from smoothies to oatmeal.

@pakiman, the original post asked for *unflavored* whey. Dymatize Gourmet Vanilla, while good, is definitely flavored and sweet. SmoothiesQueen wants something neutral! πŸ˜‰

Has anyone tried the Isopure Zero Carb Unflavored? I heard it is incredibly clean and mixes invisibly, but I am worried about the cost. Is it worth it for a truly neutral taste? πŸ€”

@Eugene, Isopure Zero Carb Unflavored is fantastic. It is my absolute favourite. It truly is invisible in terms of taste and texture. It is expensive, but for high-quality, truly unflavored, it is worth every penny in my opinion. πŸ’Έ

@A4tech, thanks for the Isopure feedback! That sounds exactly like what I need for my baking experiments. Sometimes the subtle whey taste still comes through with others. 🀯

Just got a new batch of NutraBio Classic Whey Isolate Unflavored. Their quality control is insane, and it is truly flavourless. Highly recommend checking them out if you want a premium product. πŸ’―

For anyone still looking, I have found that California Gold Nutrition's unflavored whey isolate from iHerb is a fantastic budget-friendly option. Good macros and very neutral taste for smoothies. πŸ₯
