I still think it's a band-aid. Burnout is your CNS telling you to deload. Environment is just a distraction.

It's not just a distraction, Mike. Humans aren't robots. Visual stimuli affect dopamine. Why do you think athletes train at different camps? It's to stay sharp mentally.

Spot on, Lass. Scott, why not try a 'gym crawl'? Visit three different gyms over the next two weeks and see which one gives you the best vibe. Most places do a free trial.

I did that once! Found a crossfit box that I actually liked for a while. Not for the training style, but just because everyone was so damn loud and supportive. It was a nice break from my silent garage.

Did you guys find your strength took a hit in a new environment? Different bars, different plates, different floor surface... it always feels 'off' for the first week.

Yeah, slightly. But who cares? If the goal is beating burnout, your 1RM for that week doesn't matter. The goal is wanting to train again.

"The goal is wanting to train again." — Honestly, that hit home. I’ve been dreading my workouts for six weeks. I think I’ll sign up for a month at the city centre gym tomorrow.

Fine, I'll concede. If it gets you moving, it's worth it. But I'm telling you, check your volume too!

Mike is the voice of reason as usual, even if he is a bit of a party pooper lol. Scott, let us know if the new gym helps with the Glasgow gloom.

One more thing—try changing your workout time too. Morning vs evening light changes the whole atmosphere of a gym.

Great point. I’m a morning person, but 6pm in a busy gym is a totally different 'animal' than 6am.
