How to Identify Mental Fatigue vs Physical Exhaustion
One last thing to check—hydration and electrolytes. Sometimes 'mental fatigue' is just mild dehydration making you feel sluggish. Drink a litre of water with some salt and lemon and see if the fog clears.
Good point, Dave. Especially in the winter when we don't feel as thirsty, it’s easy to slip up on water intake.
I actually use an app to track my water because I’m that much of a geek. If I’m under 3 litres, my brain definitely feels slower.
3 litres? I’d be in the loo every ten minutes! But fair play if it works for you.
Quick update: I did the 'Bro Split' and actually had a blast. Just chased a pump and left. I feel a lot less 'heavy' now. Definitely was more mental than physical.
Glad to hear it! Sometimes the brain just needs a break from the spreadsheets and the percentages.
Glad you’re feeling better, Eric. It’s such a relief when you realize you aren't actually 'broken,' just bored.
The mind is a powerful thing. It can make 100kg feel like 200kg if it’s not in the game.
Ain't that the truth. Keep listening to your body (and your heart rate!), and you'll stay ahead of the burnout.
Wise words from Dave. See you all in the gym (or the sauna) tomorrow!
Sauna sounds like a plan. Cheers everyone.
