They work, but they are very taxing on the joints. I wouldn't recommend them unless you’ve already tried the basics. Cali, focus on the big rocks first.

What about the mental side? Sometimes I just decide I'm going to fail before I even touch the bar. How do you guys stay positive during a 3-month plateau?

I listen to heavy metal and imagine I’m in a movie lol. But seriously, changing my 'PR' definition helps. If I can't add weight, I try to add a rep, or improve my form. A 'cleaner' set of 225 is still progress.

Exactly Mike! Form gains are still gains. If it looked like a 'colourful' struggle last week and looks smooth today, you’ve gotten stronger even if the weight is the same.

I also track 'Velocity'—if the bar moves faster, you're more powerful. You don't need a fancy sensor, you can just tell when you've got that snap.

Another trick is 'cluster sets'. Do 2 reps, rest 15 seconds, do another 2. It lets you handle heavier weights for more total reps than a straight set would.

Cluster sets sound interesting. This thread has given me way more to work with than I expected. I'm starting my deload on Monday. Wish me luck!

You got this, brother. Post back in two weeks and let us know if the bench moves.

One last thing—check your bench setup. If your shoulder blades aren't tucked, you’re leaking power. A tiny tweak in technique can add 10lbs instantly.

So true. Technique is the easiest 'PR' to grab. Good luck Cali!

I’m actually going to try some of these for my overhead press too. That’s been stuck since Christmas.
