It's more about the years of lifting. That dense, hard look comes from years of moving heavy weight. You can't really rush it with a 12-week prep. It’s what separates the pros from the top amateurs.

Exactly. Muscle maturity is the 'graininess' in the muscle. Novices tend to look 'bubbly' or 'wet' even when they are lean. It just takes time under the bar.
