Fidgeting is actually a win. It keeps the micro-muscles in your legs moving and prevents blood pooling. There are actually 'wobble boards' you can buy specifically to stand on to encourage that.

A wobble board sounds like a recipe for me falling over and taking my monitor with me!

I've been trying to stand for short bursts today using a stack of boxes as a DIY desk. Not very pretty but I can definitely feel my core working more. It's harder than it looks.

The DIY 'box method' is the classic gateway drug to standing desks. Glad you're feeling the difference already, Mike. Just don't let the boxes collapse!

How's the back feeling today with the temporary setup?

Surprisingly okay! The sharp pain is gone, replaced by a sort of 'tired' ache in my legs, which I can live with. It forces me to stand up straight rather than becoming a human C-shape.

Wait until you try to type while standing. It took me a week to get my coordination right because the angle of my wrists changed slightly.

My converter arrived! It's actually quite sturdy. Only took 10 minutes to set up. I'm standing right now to type this and I feel very professional and important haha.

Welcome to the club! Give it two weeks and you'll notice you actually feel more energetic by the time 5 PM rolls around. No more post-lunch slump.

Decision made. I'm buying a proper motorized one this weekend. Thanks for the advice everyone, really helped clear up the confusion.
