Is Carb Cycling Effective for Breaking a Weight Loss Plateau
What are you guys using for high carb sources? I'm a sweet potato and oats guy myself. Trying to stay away from the processed flour even on high days.
Sourdough bread is my go-to. It's easier on the digestion and tastes great with eggs in the morning.
White rice is the easiest for me to digest in high quantities. I can eat a mountain of it with some soy sauce and lean beef.
I'm planning on using quinoa and fruit for my high days. Is fruit okay or should it be mostly starches?
Starches are generally better for glycogen replenishment, but a couple of pieces of fruit won't hurt. Just don't go overboard on the fructose.
I actually find that I sleep better on high carb days. Has anyone else noticed that?
Definitely Dave. Carbs help with tryptophan transport to the brain. I always save some of my high-day carbs for my final meal for that exact reason.
Does anyone do a "no carb" day? Like zero? I've seen some bodybuilders do it but it seems extreme for a regular person.
No way. Zero carb is a dark place. My wife would probably kick me out of the house if I was that grumpy lol.
Yeah, zero carb is unnecessary. You need some glucose for basic brain function and to prevent your workouts from becoming a total waste of time.
One more thing—how often should I weigh myself? Daily or just on high carb days?
Daily, but look at the weekly average. Comparing a low-carb morning to a post-refeed morning will just drive you crazy.
Agreed. Focus on how your clothes fit. If you're dropping a belt notch but the scale is jumping around, you're still winning.
You guys are the best. Feeling much more confident about this now. Let's see if I can smash this plateau!
