Micellar Casein vs Milk Protein Concentrate for Nighttime Recovery
Has anyone tried the nighttime blends that have both plus ZMA? Seems like a better deal if the goal is purely recovery and sleep.
I used those for a while. They work but you pay a massive premium for someone to mix three cheap ingredients together. Better to buy MPC and a separate ZMA bottle.
MPC in a blender with a frozen banana and some peanut butter is elite. You can't do that with pure micellar because it gets way too thick to drink.
I disagree. The thickness of micellar is what makes it filling. If I am cutting I want that thick shake to keep me full so I don't go raiding the fridge at midnight.
True that Rocky. I am always hungry when I am dieting. Maybe I should switch from MPC back to micellar just for the satiety factor.
If you are using it post-game like the original poster I would actually recommend the MPC. That 20% whey will hit the muscles faster when you need it most then the rest will sustain you overnight.
Good call Jayne. I am going to tell my teammates to look for MPC. It is easier to find in shops here too.
I have tried both and did not notice any difference in muscle growth. It is all about the total protein intake. Don't sweat the small stuff.
It is not about growth as much as it is about preventing catabolism during an 8 hour fast. Micellar is scientifically superior for that specific task.
Science is one thing but reality is another. If I can't stand the taste of micellar I won't drink it. MPC is a solid compromise for real people.
I have been lurking here and finally decided to post. I switched to MPC and my sleep has actually improved. Not sure if it is related but I will take it!
Droz welcome! Glad to have you posting. Interesting note on the sleep. Dairy does contain tryptophan so maybe the MPC is providing a nice little boost there.
Thanks for all the input guys! I think I am going to try an MPC blend first. It sounds like the better option for post-hockey games before bed. Cheers!
Let us know how it goes MapleLeafFan! Good luck with the season. Stay hydrated.
