Visual Progress vs Scale Weight What Matters Most for Muscle Growth
I appreciate the perspective. I’m going to stop weighing myself daily and just do a weekly average. That should help with the mental stress.
Weekly averages are the way to go. It smooths out the 'noise' from a salty meal or a bad night's sleep.
One thing I've noticed—my 'visual' progress looks better when I'm actually a bit lighter because the muscle definition pops. Sometimes 'smaller' looks 'bigger' because of the leanness.
That's the illusion! It’s all about proportions. A 30-inch waist makes your shoulders look much wider than a 34-inch waist does.
I had that happen last summer! I lost 5lbs but everyone asked if I’d been hitting the gym harder because I looked more 'jacked.' Funny how that works.
It’s all about that V-taper. Focus on lateral raises and lats, and keep the waist tight. The scale is a secondary tool for that goal.
I’ve started doing more lateral raises since I read this thread. My shoulders are definitely feeling it!
Good lad! Give it a month and check the mirror. You'll see the difference even if the scale hasn't budged.
I’m curious—does anyone here actually enjoy the scale? Like, does anyone find it a positive part of their morning?
Only when I’m on a very specific cut for an event. Otherwise, it's just an annoying box in the bathroom that tells me I ate too much pizza last night.
Haha, exactly! I’ve moved mine under the sink so I only pull it out on Saturdays. Much better for my mental health.
I might do the same. This whole conversation has made me feel so much better about my progress. Thanks everyone.
Glad to help! Keep us posted on the lateral raise progress, Mike.
Will do. I’m going for that 'superhero' look by June!
That's the spirit! Consistency is king.
Totally agree. Just keep showing up and the results will follow, regardless of the scale.
Don't forget to eat your protein too! Can't grow without the building blocks.
Got it. Chicken, broccoli, and lateral raises. Let's go!
