I spend more time trying to figure out what to cook than I do actually cooking. I want to find a way to plan my entire weekly menu in 30 minutes or less. It feels like such a chore to go through recipes and make a grocery list every single week.

Does anyone have a system for fast meal planning? I have heard of people using a theme for each day like Taco Tuesday or Pasta Monday. I am in the US and I want to be more efficient with my time so I can focus on my training.

Do you use any apps or templates for your meal planning? I would love to hear how you guys stay organized and avoid the Sunday morning stress of not knowing what to buy. Any tips for a faster and easier planning process would be a lifesaver!

The secret is the 'Capsule Wardrobe' approach but for food. Pick two proteins, two carbs, and three veggies. Rotate them throughout the week so you aren't eating the exact same meal twice, but you only have to plan and buy five or six main ingredients. I can usually get my list sorted in 15 minutes flat.

I tried the capsule thing but I got bored by Wednesday. I find it faster to just use a theme night template. Taco Tuesday ingredients also make a great burrito bowl for Wednesday lunch. If you know the 'theme' of the week, the planning is basically done for you.

Totally agree with the theme nights! In my flat, we do 'Sheet Pan Sunday' where we roast everything at once. If you pick one seasoning profile for the whole pan, you don't even have to think about it. 10 minutes to plan, 20 to chop, then just let the oven do the work while you watch the hockey game.

Amateurs! The real pro move is using an app to store your 'greatest hits.' I have about 10 meals that I know my family loves and that fit my macros. I just rotate them. No thinking required. Planning takes as long as it takes to hit 'copy' on the grocery list.

I disagree with TXguy99 slightly—I like a bit of variety or I'll end up at the local chippy. I spend 20 minutes on Saturday morning looking at what's on offer at the supermarket. If salmon is half price, that's my protein. The price dictates the plan, which saves money and time.

NorthernLass, that sounds smart but doesn't it take ages to find recipes for whatever is on sale? That's where I usually get stuck in a scroll-hole on Pinterest.

Not if you keep it simple. Any protein can be grilled with salt, pepper, and lemon. Don't overcomplicate the recipes. Fancy sauces take time; spices take seconds.

I use a 'Master List' on my fridge. It's a list of 5 breakfast options, 5 lunch, and 10 dinner. Every Saturday, I just circle 2 of each and that's the week. It honestly takes about 5 minutes because the 'decision' is just picking from a pre-approved list.

Dave's Master List idea is top tier. It eliminates decision fatigue. Does anyone else struggle with the grocery shopping part being the bottleneck?

I use grocery pickup. I add things to the cart throughout the week as I think of them. By the time I sit down to 'plan,' the cart is 80% full. I just check the pantry, hit order, and pick it up on my way home from work.

Pickup is a game changer for staying on diet too. You don't see the candy bars in the checkout aisle so you don't buy 'em. Saves time and my six-pack.

Does anyone prep for all 7 days? I find my food goes a bit dodgy by Friday. I usually plan for 4 days and then do a 'pantry raid' for the weekend.

I've been trying to do 7 days but you're right, the salads get slimy. Maybe the 30-minute plan should only cover Monday-Thursday?

I prep the 'base' for 7 days—like a big pot of rice and grilled chicken—but I only chop the fresh stuff every 2 days. It keeps things fresh but the heavy lifting is still done.

I just freeze half. Soups, stews, and curries freeze beautifully. I plan two 'fresh' meals and one 'freezer' meal per week. That way, if I'm busy, dinner is already in the icebox.

Frozen veg is underrated for this too. No chopping, no wilting, and just as nutritious as fresh. Saves me at least 10 minutes of prep time.

Agreed! Frozen broccoli is a staple in my house. Throw it in the air fryer with some garlic powder and it's better than fresh.

QuickCook, another tip for the 30-min plan: buy pre-cooked grains or rotisserie chickens. It's more expensive but if it saves you 2 hours of cooking, it might be worth it.

I think the 'Master List' + 'Grocery Pickup' is the winner for me. I’m going to spend 20 mins tonight making my list of 10 easy meals. Thanks Dave!
